Chamomile and Pecans

I took my dried Chamomile outside.
I knew removing the flowers would be messy.
It was warm and not too windy.
I needed to refill my canister.
Each evening I have a cup of chamomile tea before bed.
I hope I have enough for the winter.

I harvested dried mum blossoms.
I will use them in January for tea.

The mums in the window boxes are still blooming.
I will harvest them after a hard freeze.

This week I am studying the Pecan Tree and
the delicious pecan.

I am reading about nuts and adding them into our diet.

The American Indians knew about the Chestnut Tree
and the Pecan Tree.
I am collecting proverbs.

  1. I always come for a visit with you and leave with a bit more wisdom---I have not heard of Mums blossom tea. I have some Mums, do I just go gather the dead blooms? How to dry them? How much to use for a cup of tea? My Camomile died out and I didn't get any planted this Spring. I hope to grow some next season. We've already had a couple of hard frosts and I'm fairly certain that my Mums are finished blooming.

  2. Dear Angie,
The Chinese use dried chrysanthemum blossoms for tea!
I snip the blooms after they have "dried" on the stems. I also air dry on woven mats inside before storing. I make sure they are crackly dry before putting them into my jars.
I make a tea blend with mint. One or two mum flowers to a teaspoon or so of mint. Very refreshing on a cold winter's day.
I also dry my peony blooms for winter teas.
The German Chamomile is a perennial for me. It blooms in late April and by June is completely over. I never seem to be able to harvest enough for my winter tea and for it to re-seed.
    Hope this helps!
    Blessed be indeed!
